Gastone is a culinary journey through time and style. Nestled in the heart of Monastiraki, Athens, Gastone has been captivating diners since its inception in 2020. Housed in the historic Mousouri House at the corner of Plaxitelous, Agiou Markou, and Evripidou streets, this unique dining space offers a harmonious blend of past and present. Constructed in 1930 by architect Constantinos Kyriakidis, the building itself is a testament to neoclassical elegance.
Gastone’s design concept is an artful fusion of an American diner, a traditional tavern, and a contemporary bar, creating a cohesive yet eclectic environment. This collage-like approach integrates diverse spatial, aesthetic, and functional elements, making it a standout in today’s vibrant Athens dining scene.
The interior architecture of Gastone pays homage to the building’s historical essence while infusing it with modern charm. Exposed stone walls provide a rustic texture, exuding the original charm of the neoclassical structure. Industrial-style metal fixtures, neon signage, Tinos marble, wood, and brown leather accents contribute to a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, epitomizing the eclectic mix of styles.
Gastone’s layout is thoughtfully divided into two main areas: the bar and the dining section. These zones are separated by a unique construction that offers varied seating options, enhancing the flexibility and intimacy of the space. Strategically placed streetlights on this construction, as well as on some interior and exterior walls, evoke a nostalgic ambiance, reminiscent of bustling urban streets.
