Regno Di Morea is housed in a neoclassical listed building located on Vellini St, within Nafplion’s old town. Constructed in the 19th century, the building boasts a unique connection, sharing a northern wall partition with the town hall. The overall approach to transforming this building into a hotel involved a meticulous restoration process that respected its architectural heritage, with the primary goal of preserving its original form and historical significance in the context of its new purpose.
The restoration efforts focused on the facades, utilizing existing stones to restore their original appearance in terms of color, design, and the positioning, materials, and dimensions of openings, balconies, and decorative elements. Lighting accents were incorporated to enhance the facade’s features, including a remarkable marble historical fragment that was revealed near the town hall.
Upon entering the hotel, guests go through a well-preserved preexisting door and are greeted by a wooden staircase that effectively divides the building between the hotel rooms spanning three floors and the inviting recreational common areas. The principal consideration during this process was to retain the neoclassical balustrade of the staircase while adapting the space to modern functional requirements. Throughout the renovation, we remained dedicated to the traditional construction methods. The restoration of the wooden floors, ceilings, roof, and partition walls, with their wooden frames, known as “tsasmades” , ensured that the building retained its authentic character. Configuration of the reception area on the ground floor, along with the design of all eight rooms, eloquently harmonize modern elements with neoclassical references, serving to contemporize the building while establishing a deep connection with its storied past. The result is a hotel that exudes an understated elegance, fostering a captivating ambiance of comfort and pleasure.
Our architectural approach to the renovation project incorporated a natural palette of materials, including stone, wood, and marble, effortlessly blending with the building’s shell and forming clean design lines. Subtle lighting choices were implemented to accentuate textures and colors, composing the desired atmosphere. Regno Di Morea stands as a timeless and emblematic landmark within Nafplion’s historic city, offering a warm environment of aesthetic excellence and harmonious surroundings that evoke a sense of classic allure.
